After watching/listening
the assignment for week 1: the video of Punya Mishra’s (2008), he was talking
about pedagogy, content and technology, and the living at the junction of
educational, creativity, design and technology. This is exactly what I was
thinking about when deliver content using technology. We, the educators must be
savvy with technology but we need to be creative to use it appropriately to
deliver the content and create our class frameworks.
A continuation,
there are my notes of Mishra (2008) video/presentation, and where I gain a lot
of interesting ideas with his examples. This was a master presentation.
Accoding by Punya
Mishra (2008), “Technology” is a wick (Rittel & Webber, 1972) and every
solutions leads to new problems.
- Solutions?
Mishra (2008) indicate that "Standards
approaches don’t work".
So, he back to refrain…
1. Teaching with technology a WICKED problem
2. Wicked problems require CREATIVITY solutions
3. Teachers are designers of the Total PACKage
TPACK
Mushra’s (2008) talks
about “New media ecology”, which is one that is characterized by change.
It is a question of
Survival. Where the standards procedures don’t work and creativity is the only
solution by tweaking knobs with new ideas.
I like the example
of what we can learn from fish that he exposed… he said that when a good time,
fish reproduce few fish, but when bad time, fish reproduced a lot of fish
because he knows many will be died. So, he brings this example to the education
and technology. And also he posted the following in the video slide
presentation:
“The best way to have a good idea
is to have a lot of ideas” – Linus Pauling
According by
Mushra, “have a lot of ideas” is the key of the “new media ecology”.
-
Then, he question
what is creativity?
He ending with the acronym of creativity as must be NEW: Novel, Effective and Whole.
Then he said that it is wrong, and creativity is you have a new idea and you working on it or tweaking several times as a variation of a theme to have something else, then is new.
- Tpack means “Total Package”
TPCK –
Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge.
TPACK – is the acronym
of Total PACKage
Teachers need to
look for “new opportunities to connect with content” (Mushra, 2008)
The PCT (Pedagogy,
Content and Technology) is integrate, interdisciplinary and creative.
To closure his
exposition, Mishra’s ending with the question: Where do educators live?
Educators live right in the center of PCT:
This is where
EDUCATORS live… right in the middle.
Quality teaching,
always understood the essentials tension which lead you to NEW idea, novel,
effective and whole.
And, he concludes
with … let’s play, our future depends on it; our children’s future depends on
it where our children’s lives.
